The challenges and opportunities within our district are diverse, ranging from housing to childcare, transportation to road improvements, from supporting our fishing communities to bolstering positive tourism. My focus is not just on acknowledging these concerns, but actively addressing them through strategic advocacy, collaboration, and effective representation in the State House.
The essence of my campaign lies in a steadfast commitment to prioritize the needs and concerns of House District 6 above all else. My decision to run is motivated by an enduring dedication to service. Our residents have voiced a variety of concerns, and I am dedicated to addressing them proactively. The top request is clear - focus on serving our district and communities.
My campaign is not just about me; it's about building bridges within our communities. I will work collaboratively with local leaders, stakeholders, and residents to address the pressing issues faced by House District 6. It is a commitment to actively engage with constituents, listen to their concerns, and translate those concerns into tangible legislative actions that benefit House District 6.
I'm a proud Alaskan, raised amidst the stunning landscapes that make our state truly unique. My life's journey has been shaped by a deep-rooted dedication to service and community. Over two decades of military service saw me transition from a Marine to a Sailor, with deployments all over the globe. This journey instilled in me the values of discipline, duty, and a profound love for Alaska. Upon retirement, I chose to settle on the southern Kenai Peninsula, where I could reconnect with my fondest childhood memories.
From my earliest years, I was immersed in a family deeply dedicated to public service. With my father an Alaska State Trooper and my mother a police dispatcher, the importance of selfless service became ingrained in me. This commitment led me to enlist in the Marine Corps at the age of 17. Celebrating my 18th birthday in boot camp, I served the next four years in the Infantry.
Following an honorable discharge, my yearning to serve persisted. I reenlisted in the US Navy shortly before 9/11, and for the next 16 years, I served our nation across the globe. During this time, I led and mentored hundreds of servicemembers, serving in roles such as the Chief of Police, Department Head and Antiterrorism Officer. After 20 years of service, I retired as a Chief Petty Officer. My service included deployments to both Afghanistan and Iraq, where I witnessed firsthand the sacrifices made in the name of service.
I have continued to serve after hanging up my uniform, from serving as the CEO of a local veterans' charity to my current role as President of the Board of the Homer Chamber of Commerce. In my role as CEO, I spearheaded the creation of a veterans' charity, taking it from inception to a successful program in less than 6 months. This initiative resulted in eight musician veterans visiting the southern Kenai peninsula, providing tangible support to those who have served our country and showcasing their talent with a community concert.
My leadership approach extends beyond economic considerations, aiming to forge a resilient & interconnected community within House District 6. As President of the Board, I've championed community-focused events, such as the Pioneer Avenue Trick or Treat and the Holiday Tree Lighting, contributing to the development and empowerment of our local businesses. Beyond economic initiatives, I've organized and led diverse community programs like the Candidate Forums and the Champions for Children Toy Drive. These events weren't just about boosting economic growth; they were about building a foundation of unity and camaraderie among our residents.
The core principles guiding my campaign, 'Anchored in Service, Committed to Community,' reflect my unwavering belief that service to the entire community is not just a responsibility—it's a calling. I am dedicated to ensuring that every voice in House District 6 is not only heard but represented effectively at the state level. This campaign is an extension of my lifelong dedication to service, and it's a commitment to you, the residents of House District 6, to be a tireless advocate and representative. Together, let's anchor our community in a legacy of service and commitment, shaping a future where every voice matters.
